This is a collection of three mountain photos and Kelly. One photo is that of a bicyclist riding up a mountain road depicting an uphill cancer journey.

WELCOME,

I’M Kelly

YOU JUST FOUND OUT YOU HAVE CANCER

If only someone could help you figure out what to do next.

Your whole life has just been turned upside down. You’re scared, confused, and maybe even mad.

“Why me?”

“Now what?”

“I wish there was someone who has been through this who could help me know what to do.  Tell me how I am supposed to tell my friends and family that I have cancer. Tell me what to expect!”

First, let me tell you how truly sorry I am that you, or your loved one, have been diagnosed with cancer.

The first days after receiving your diagnosis can be one of the scariest and most confusing times of your life.

So many people want to tell you stories about someone they knew who had cancer, and not all of them are good.

Amidst the whirlwind of questions in your mind, you wish someone would come alongside you and offer some encouragement and give you practical advice about how to navigate the days ahead as you embark on this cancer journey.

That’s why I’m here.

How I Know I Can Help You

I have experienced cancer from all three realms: as a daughter of two parents who each had cancer, as a friend of a cancer patient, and as a cancer patient myself.

I get what you are going through because I have been there.

When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I had no idea where to start. I had experienced cancer from the role of support person, but this time it was me on the cancer journey.

I was the cancer patient.

And clueless on so many levels.

You would think that being a nurse would automatically mean I had all the answers.

Nope.

But now that I have been through cancer myself, I want to help you.

I don’t want you to have to stumble around like I did trying to figure out what to do, or where to get answers.

Who Am I?

Fun fact #1.

I am a breast cancer survivor. After going through chemotherapy, a double mastectomy, and radiation treatments, I have been cancer-free for six years.

Fun fact #2.

I am a fur-baby mom. I have two of the cutest dogs. Meet Shania and Inigo.

Fun fact #3.

I have been a nurse for thirty-six years, a wife for thirty-five years, and one of ten siblings for … all of my life.

YOU are the reason this website exists!

I am here to give you information and encouragement to help guide you along your cancer journey. You were diagnosed with cancer, but it takes a community to support you each step of the way.
